We recently received our new sails from C Sails, a sailmaker based in South Africa, and were eager to get them installed on our yacht. The process of attaching sails to the rigging is known as “bending” the sails, and it’s more complex than it might seem. Each sail must be precisely fitted to ensure smooth performance, proper sail shape, and safety. Working with the mainsail and headsail, we carefully attached them to the mast and boom, checking that the battens and reefing points were secure. Every shackle, halyard, and sheet needed to be properly tensioned to make sure the sails would catch the wind efficiently. This careful and detailed process took some time, but the effort paid off once we raised the sails. Now with them bent on, our yacht is ready to sail, thanks to the exceptional craftsmanship from C Sails and our careful installation.
